I've been through 2 of these since early December - each has quit working without notice. I returned the first, believing that it was just that particular receiver, but after the 2nd I will never buy another one. Back to the store this one goes.
I bought this unit to replace a 40-year-old Akai stereo receiver that finally gave it up. It sounds and works great so far (a big sonic improvement over my old receiver) and has more than enough inputs for my needs, so I feel it is an outstanding buy for the money. I really only use it as an amplifier for a bedroom DVD-CD player and television powering a pair of speakers. The satellite programming package I use has music channels included and I live in the country so I don't use the FM receiver section of the unit, so I can't comment on that. I also like having a remote control with a mute function for use with the TV which the old Akai receiver didn't have. I'm considering buying another one for powering some speakers I own to use with my computer instead of the inferior ones that came with it.
Price is what sold me on this particular receiver. In the time that i have had it, it has sounded good and performed as expected.
Bought this to power my house wide built in speakers. It will power Polk floor standing main speakers along with the house system.with ease. At first it would clip if I played it too loud, but after time it quit doing that and plays like one of those old Japanese receivers from the seventies. Clean, full frequency response power.an amazing deal.
The treble is also stuck, a little to low for much music. I've had the Sherwood RX-4105 for a long time. Fortunately the balance is fine. It worked fine for awhile until the button that controls the balance, bass and treble quit working. Now the bass is stuck in such a high position that everything sounds way too boomy. I couldn't stand the sound of it anymore so I bought an Onkyo TX-8255 Stereo Receiver. It has knobs for the balance, bass and treble.
